Important: Insurance coverage begins upon conclusion of the contract for newly occurring insured events. If you are already abroad at the time of concluding the contract, a waiting period of 14 days applies for benefits in the event of illness (exception in cases of acute life-threatening conditions).

What does deductible mean?
The deductible is the amount you pay yourself in the event of a claim. With Protrip World Traveler, it is €50 per claim. This means that you pay a one-time fee of €50 for treatment costs, and the insurance covers everything above that amount.
Example: Treatment costs €850. You pay €50, and we cover €800.
Advantage: The deductible significantly reduces your monthly premium – you only pay when you actually use the insurance.

How can the premium be paid?
When paying by SEPA direct debit or credit card, we offer you the option of paying the premium monthly. Alternatively, a one-time payment for the entire insurance period is also possible.
All other payment methods are only available for a one-time payment for the entire duration of the insurance.

The premium for this policy depends on the duration of the trip. Should you return early from your stay abroad, a phone call or an email is sufficient. We will then calculate your exact premium depending on the number of days you stayed abroad. You only need to pay for the actual insurance period. No service fee will be charged for reimbursement.

Where the term of insurance exceeds one month, you can also pay in monthly installments via SEPA Direct Debit. The first installment becomes due at the start of insurance, the subsequent installments at the start of each following month. - Credit card

The most important benefits
Inpatient and outpatient treatments including surgeries are covered without limit. Emergency room treatment in the USA is covered; the deductible of €250 is waived in case of medical necessity or subsequent inpatient stay. Medications, remedies, and bandages are covered without limit. Medically necessary and justifiable repatriation to the place of residence is covered without limit. The transport of mortal remains to the place of residence is covered without limit, alternatively burial abroad up to the cost of repatriation. Transport costs to the nearest hospital, e.g. by ambulance, are covered without limit. During a trip interruption, vacation, or stay at home, acute illnesses are covered worldwide for up to six weeks – including in the home country or countries not covered by the policy. The six weeks can be split. Pain-relieving dental treatment including simple fillings is covered up to €500 per case. Aids such as walking aids or rented wheelchairs are covered if they become necessary for the first time due to an accident or illness during the insured trip. If medical travel incapacity exists, coverage continues until the restoration of travel capability, but for a maximum of 90 days. -
Requirements for the insurance
You must be no older than 69 years at the start of the contract. The insurance policy is purchased prior to departure for the entire duration of the stay abroad or after departure for the remaining period of the stay abroad, but for a maximum of 12 months. Please notice our information about the waiting period if you apply for insurance after crossing the border. An extension of the insurance can be applied for after the first 12 months at the conditions and rates valid at that time. The insurance needs to be purchased prior to departure for the entire duration of the stay abroad or after departure for the remaining period of the stay abroad. (However, the maximum duration of insurance is 12 months.) Should the application for insurance be submitted after border crossing, the waiting period for medical claims will be 14 days from the start of the insurance. The waiting period for insured pregnancy benefits is 10 months. No waiting period applies in case of accidents and medical help aiming to prevent acute danger to the insured person's life. -
Exclusions – clear and simple
✖ Costs of treatment of illnesses, complaints and physical malformation as well as the consequences thereof because of which the insured person obtained medical advise or which were medically treated during the last six months prior to the beginning of insurance coverage. Complaints and illnesses already existing at the start of the insurance are excluded from the insurance cover. ✖ Treatments and other medically prescribed measures of which the insured person knew at the start of the journey that they would have to take place for medical reasons in case the trip was carried out as planned (e.g. dialysis). ✖ Costs for the medical treatment and medically prescribed measures as well as medical transport, rescue and recovery measures relating to the exercise of the following sports: motorcycle or car racing including the training related hereto, parachuting, paragliding, bungee jumping, base jumping, mountaineering (if special climbing equipment is required), free climbing, sport diving and scuba diving as well as paid sport or professional sport. ✖ Costs for preventive examinations (including check-ups) and vaccinations. ✖ Purchase and repair of pacemakers, prostheses, visual and hearing aids. ✖ Costs due to accidents or illnesses as a result of mental illness or cognitive disorders if these are caused by the use of alcohol, drugs, intoxicants or narcotics, sleeping pills or other narcotic substances. ✖ Acupuncture, fango and massages. ✖ Need of care or custody. ✖ Outpatient psychoanalytic and psychotherapeutic treatments as well as hypnosis unless covered within the policy’s medical benefits. ✖ Costs due to pregnancy and childbirth if the mother was already pregnant prior to the start of the insured stay, unless there is an acute and unexpected deterioration in the health of the mother and/or baby.
